The Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC) has offered 60 hectares of land to Tanzania to build a dry port a few kilometres outside Lubumbashi.

Lubumbashi is Congo’s second largest city after Kinshasa and is approximately close to 2000 km from Dar es salaam port.

Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure development Prof Godius Kahyarara says that following innitial agreement between the 2 countries, the official signing would be done in June this year.

This understanding comes 3 days after a trip to Lubumbashi by officials from Tanzania Port Authority where they held meetings on the matter with DRC’s government officials.

Other agreements on how to action the project would be reached during a meeting in Lubumbashi of Ministers of infrastructure under coordination by the Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA).

DRC’s cargo volume through the Dar es Salaam Port reached 3.4 million metric tonnes in 2022/2023 from 1.9 million metric tonnes handled in 2018/2019.
