Tanzania, through its Ministry of Health, plans to establish a special neuro- surgery institute.This aims to separate these services from the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute(MOI).

The Minister for Health Ummy Mwalimu said this today while launching the Tanzania Neurosurgical Society in Dar  es salaam. Its led by Dr Othmani Kiloloma as the chairperson.

According to her, Tanzania has only 25 neuro surgeons.This is below the recommendation from WHO that there should be 1 neuro surgeon for every 150,000 people. For now, each neurosurgeon takes care of 2.4 million people in Tanzania.
