Tanzania’s Ministry of Agriculture is seeking to align coordination of all agricultural projects in the country.
In a letter sent by the Minister for Agriculture to international missions and copied to the Agricultural Donor’s Working Group, USAID/Tanzania by the Minister of Agriculture Hussein Bashe, he notes that for a while they have noted a trend of less coordination in the sector.
“For some time now, the Ministry has been evaluating the trend of resources investment from Development Partners in the Agriculture sector; in the assessment, the Ministry has learned that many of the projects funded by Development Partners have the following issues.”
The issues noted, he stated, include duplication of Resources on the financing of projects in the agriculture sector which has led to a decrease in the benefits of the resources invested in agricultural sector.
The ministry also cites lack of value for money invested in Agricultural projects which has emerged due to a lot of funds being directed to repeated trainings and capacity building workshop activities instead of serving the farmers directly.
In line with the assessment, the minister expressed his interest to sit with Heads of Mission/Agency that support Agricultural Development to discuss, alignment and budget priorities for Agricultural transformation projects in Tanzania on Monday 28th May, 2024.
It is a high-level meeting which all Heads of Mission/agency supporting Agricultural Transformation Projects in Tanzania.
